Form and Function

The Roger Dubuis marque has been feted for its many horological creations. From the Easy Divers to the Kingsquares, each Roger Dubuis timepiece embodies the manufacture’s DNA of creativity and intricacy. Yet one case that has quickly become an icon for the brand is the Excalibur. With its distinctive features and ingenious designs, the Excalibur case has housed complications by Roger Dubuis, from the minute repeater with flying tourbillon, to the triple time zone function.

Making it to celebrity status then is Roger Dubuis’ Double Tourbillon Excalibur. This year, the architecture of its skeleton movement gets refined further to render it even more sculptural and pleasing to the eye.

Through its white gold case, wearers can peer into the splendid black movement within. There are a total of 292 components to the watch, which beats at 21,600 vph and boasts a 48-hour power reserve.

Skin Deep

For some women, after 11 years in the corporate world, nothing seems better than to take a break. Not for Sabrina Tan.

She has managed to carve out her perfect niche, a brand and product which would end up having the cult following it has today.

Customised skin care brand, Skin Inc, was founded by Tan, with her dissatisfaction with skin care products being her impetus. With research at hand, she chanced upon natural active ingredients from Japan,

The Stuff of adventures

Sonia Rykiel’s autumn/winter 2009/2010 collection reeks of the fantastically adventurous, blending 70s’ style and 30s’ glamour with more than a taint of the French chic. There is lot of play on volume, shape and fabric. As the Parisian house brings to this season billowing trouser suits and quirky brogues.

For this season, the colour palette is a pastiche of muted burgundy, burnt orange, black and ballet pink. A key look is the layering effect, what with over sized trousers and striking dresses in silk, sequin and the signature Rykiel knit. Shoes and hats are transformed into fashion embellishments, heightening the showman spirit of the collection – the autumn/winter 2009/2010 collection is not just about French libertinism rising to the fore but of reliving a carefree life, optimistic and free of gloom, post-financial crisis.

Homme Sweet Homme

At agnès b. Homme menswear spring/summer 2010 collection in Paris, it was a runway show with a difference. Held at the presidential suite of famed luxury establishment, Hotel Meurice, the show was distinguished by a maritime theme, as the male models were sent out as dandies and youthful rockers parading the latest looks.

This new collection from agnès b. Homme idealises the wardrobe for the man on the go, as the direction, drawing inspiration from 19thcentury Italian-born explorer, Pierre de Brazza, the founding father of Congo known for his easy manners and pacific charm. Antonio Marras, Kenzo Homme’s designer, chose to focus on de brazza as an adventurer of courage and noble spirit rather than imperialist colonial administrator.

Rimowa, the luxury luggage brand with over a hundred years of heritage, has recently commissioned a new advertising campaign.

Made in Germany, Rimowa has always been on the forefront of innovation with its high quality and well-designed travel luggage.

The success of the Rimowa luggage can be attributed to its use of aluminium and polycarbonate, as well as its characteristic groove structure. Polycarbonate, which is used in aircraft manufacturing, is lighter than aluminium and extremely durable. Rimowa was the first to integrate this almost indestructible material into its luggage.

Treasure Chest ofJewels and Luxury

Designs and Inspiration
“Jewellery has a very intimate relationship with the body,” said Pierre Hardy, the man behind this intricate and stunning jewellery collection. His belief of this notion sets him thinking about integration of the pieces with the wearer and how to best carry off these precious jewelleries.

Drawing inspiration from the equestrian world, Hermès jewellery has always been closely associated with horse, bits, spurs and stirrups. Bearing this in mind, Pierre Hardy tries his best to inscribe this detail into his designs, however slight they might be. The elegance of the horse is beautifully reflected in the designs.
