Guenpin, Japan’s Largest Fugu Restaurant Chain opens first-ever overseas outlet in Singapore

Guenpin Fugu and Snow Crab Japanese Restaurant (Guenpin), Japan’s largest fugu restaurant chain, has opened its first-ever overseas outlet in Singapore at Maxwell Chambers.

This is the place to experience the best quality torafugu at competitive prices without having to travel to Japan. The 32-seater outlet in Singapore serves a delightful range of torafugu and snow crab cuisines.

A household name when it comes to delicious torafugu (Tiger Puffer Fish) cuisines, the restaurant has over 30 years of history and boasts 96 outlets in Japan that see patronage from over 810,000 guests a year.

Torafugu is the highest-grade fugu in the market, and at Guenpin Fugu, you can enjoy it in different styles. Be spoilt for choices with the following mainstays:

  • Thin Sliced Puffer Fish Sashimi (S$28), which is paired with special ponzu soy sauce from Japan. This is Guenpin’s signature dish!
  • Parboiled Puffer Fish Skin Sashimi (S$14) with ponzu sauce. This is a great appetiser to start off the gourmet experience.
  • Thick Sliced Puffer Fish Sashimi (S$32), which is topped with radish, ponzu soy sauce and spring onion.
  • Puffer Fish for Grill (S$48), which comes with options of ponzu soy sauce marinade or no marinade. Diners can dip the meat into three different dipping sauces such as sweet miso, chili and minced garlic.
  • Puffer Fish for Hot Pot (S$55) served with fresh vegetables, dipped with ponzu sauce for the perfect taste.

Guenpin is helmed by Chef Tomita, who has over 30 years of experience handling fugu cuisines. The brand aims to expand a total of 80 restaurants in nine other Asian countries within the next 5 years. This includes Singapore, China, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia.
